Please note: this is a two-day workshop - February 9, and April 17, 2015

The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) was created to provide classroom teachers a clear and comprehensive model for delivering sheltered content instruction to English Learners. During this two-day workshop (Feb 9 and April 17) designed for K-5 classroom teachers and resource teachers working with ELLs, you will become familiar with the SIOP model and learn additional instructional strategies for working with language learners.

Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners (Echevarria, Vogt & Short, 2013) will be the text (required) provided to each participant so they can explore each of the eight components of SIOP:

  • Lesson Preparation
  • Building Background
  • Comprehensible Input
  • Strategies
  • Interaction
  • Practice & Application
  • Lesson Delivery
  • Review & Assessment

As teachers, you will plan differentiated lessons using your new knowledge of effective sheltered strategies, and then share your experiences on the second day.  You will also have the opportunity to reflect on your current practice, collaborate with peers, and add to your toolbox of resources for working with ELLs!  Credit will be available for an additional cost. Contact Nancy Booth with credit questions: nancy.booth@cesa2.org

Cost: $150, which includes above required text, lunch and materials. Title III funds may be used to cover this type of professional development. Check with your school district.

CESA 2 Title III Consortium (Belleville, Beloit Turner, Bristol, Brodhead, Clinton, Deerfield, Linn J4, Mt. Horeb, Paris,
Twin Lakes, Union Grove J1, Wilmot UHS,) classroom and resource teachers may attend the two-day workshop for
$50 per participant, sending up to four (4) staff per district. Contact Nancy Booth with questions: nancy.booth@cesa2.org

Registration Deadline: January 19, 2015
Those registering after the deadline will not receive the text, and will be responsible for their own copy.
