On the first day of this workshop, we will look at number sense development, how to assess it, and how it can be used to provide data to drive instruction, as well as to ensure that your students' boxes are at their independent skill levels. This data can also be used when creating small groups for differentiated lessons. We will then discuss the philosophy and rationale behind students using math boxes during your math block and see how this might relate to RtI in your classroom. Organizational tips for your math hour will be covered, including introduction of the boxes, creation of ""stations"" that include math boxes and small group work, and checking/changing individual boxes.

On the second day, participants will learn which standards based activities are a required part of the math box and many activities that can be included in addition to those required ones. We will work through the activities, learn the games, and explore using different sets of materials that can be used in different stations. Each participant will leave with a flash drive of all the information and activities we have covered for, as well as the assessment piece!
