This workshop will have in-depth presentation and discussions regarding Wisconsin American Indian Studies or Act 31 (1989/1991). The focus of the workshop will be to help educators have an understanding of Act 31 and it's implementation. Act 31is a state law that requires all public school districts and pre-service teacher programs to provide instruction in the history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of the eleven federally-recognized American Indian nations in the state. The workshop is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and information they need to integrate the requirements of Act 31 into lesson plans, material selections, pedagogical practices, and districts curriculum. Information about Wisconsin American Indian nation’s histories, treaty rights, sovereignty, and cultures will be presented throughout the workshop.
