In this interactive session, participants will receive current information on topics specific to students with severe and/or multiple disabilities. Topics addressed will include:
- What it means when a child is “legally blind” and/or has “cortical visual impairment”
- What it means when a child has “poor receptive language” or “processing difficulties”
- Identification of children with combined vision and hearing loss (they are not who you think they are – combine the two descriptors above – cortical visual impairment + auditory processing difficulties)
- Understanding how children with severe multiple disabilities learn as limbic learners
- Strategies teachers can implement tomorrow
Presenters: Tricia Weis, Birth to 6 Specialist; Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI) Outreach, & Heidi Hollenberger, Deafblind Coordinator, Wisconsin Educational Services; Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WESPDHH) Outreach
