Are you interested in exploring the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and learning more about the potential impact of NGSS on the future of science teaching and learning? This workshop will provide an overview of NGSS, discuss the major conceptual shifts, and help you to develop a vision of your future NGSS classroom. It will also be an opportunity to network with other science educators and build a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to facilitate your professional development and NGSS implementation.

Bring your laptop or tablet. Chromebooks are also available for use at CESA 5.

Presenter Bio: Dorothy Ginnett is the newly hired Science Specialist for CESA 5. She is a WI Professional Educator and has experience teaching in the CESA 5 region, both secondary (6 - 12) and college-level science in face-to-face, blended and fully online classrooms. Dorothy also has experience teaching professional development courses in Environmental Science for K-12 Educators. Dorothy earned a Ph. D. in Wildlife Ecology and serves as an Online Advisor for the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).

Teacher Standards
WES1The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the disciplines he or she teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for pupils.
WES4The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies, including the use of technology to encourage children’s development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
WES7The teacher organizes and plans systematic instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, pupils, the community, and curriculum goals.
Administrator Standards
WAS2The administrator leads by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared by the school community.
Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
