Beginning in 2014-15, Wisconsin School districts will be implementing a new educator effectiveness system. Districts who are utilizing the state framework with Teachscape will need to certify as trained observers using Danielson’s Framework for Teaching. All evaluators who will complete observations of educators, and these observations will be included as evidence for the purpose of evaluation, must be certified. Teachscape Focus is a complete system for building a common language and shared understanding of teaching effectiveness among observers and teachers based on the Framework for Teaching (Danielson). With training, scoring practice, a rigorous proficiency assessment, and follow-up calibration for observers, Teachscape Focus helps increase confidence in the evaluation process. It also builds a structure for the ongoing conversations that are part of a continuous improvement process.

CESA 5 is offering an opportunity for observers to collaborate through this certification process.

Participants will attend the three day training. We will facilitate conversations for K-5 evaluators and 6-12 evaluators in a face to face format. In these three days, we will complete the training and take the online certification test.

Participants will receive video-rich training in all four domains of the framework for teaching, compare their scoring to master-scored videos of classroom teaching at all levels, receive expert feedback on scoring and complete a rigorous proficiency assessment. Ongoing observer calibration is available throughout the year.

A Teachscape account is required to complete coursework/certification. Access to Teachscape may be obtained in one of two methods:

  1.  Participants who attended the DPI pilot trainings (Cohort 1 or 2) will have access to Teachscape Focus at no cost. Completing the Teachscape survey is necessary to establish an account.
  2. Participants from districts who did not take part in the pilot training, but would like to participate in the certification, may take advantage of this certification to obtain a “jumpstart” on the certification process and learn the Danielson framework. The cost of this account is $408. However, when the participant completes the DPI required training, access to Teachscape will be available at a greatly reduced cost (approx. $80). At this time, a $388 credit ($408 less $20 Teachscape processing fee) will be issued to the district. CESA 5 will serve as the fiscal agent for the management of these funds and will be the liason between the participant and Teachscape. Participants will continue to access their established Teachscape account when the district enters into an agreement with Wisconsin DPI for Educator Effectiveness services and payment is made to DPI.

Optional: Graduate credit available through Viterbo ($200 per credit). 2 credits

Cost:     $150 for Non-members
               $  75 for CESA 5 Members
               $  50 for Student Achievement Consortium

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
