Beyond Pizzas and Pies, Strategies for Effective Fraction Instruction

Do you have students who have difficulty understanding fractions? Research has shown that understanding fractions is a foundation skill essential to success with algebra. The Common Core Standards clearly outlines the learning progression in the domain of fractions. By the end of fifth grade students are expected to have a clear understanding of fractions and be able to compute with fractions. In this workshop we will explore activities that focus on understanding fractions as numbers using fraction strips, number lines, bar diagrams, clocks, egg cartons and other tools and strategies. We will examine operations with fractions and how teachers can help students understand why computational procedures with fractions make sense.

All activities will focus on developing deeper understanding of Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade Common Core Math State Standards learning targets and increasing teacher effectiveness in the teaching of fractions.

Cost: $40.00 per participant for all CESA 8 School Districts.
$150.00 per participant for all School Districts outside of CESA 8

CANCELLATION POLICY: Any registration cancellation must be received 7 days prior to the scheduled date to receive a refund or avoid invoicing.
