The CAFE' Book Study takes participants beyond the classroom management structure introduced in the Daily 5 study to focus on how to integrate assessment into daily reading and classroom discussion, as well as strategies for teaching the collection of essential reading mini-lessons that are central to the CAFE':  Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expand Vocabulary.  Explore a variety of formative assessment activities, including:  Individual and small group data collection, using student assessment information to plan individual, small group and whole group instruction, and recording and using conferring notes.  Learn practical strategies for organizing assessment data to inform instruction, track individual student goals, create flexible groups focused on specific reading strategies, and helping students remember and retrieve strategies they have learned.

Presenter:  Cindy Arntzen is an Educational Consultant with CESA 11 in Turtle Lake, WI.  She facilitates a variety of regional and in-district workshops and provides district consultation in areas relating to Title I, Title II, Title III, Literacy, Curriculum and Assessment, Student-Driven, Literacy, Instructional Coaching and Educator Effectiveness.  Cindy has been a District K-12 Reading Specialist, Title I Coordinator, Literacy Coach, and Gifted and Talented Teacher.  She has regular classroom teaching experience in Grades 18, as well as adult education.  She is also co-chair of the Wisconsin State Reading Association’s Middle Level Literacy Leadership Committee.

Cost:  Provided by the Title I Network for the reduced cost of $25 per participant.  Includes a copy of the Café book which includes a CD of printable forms.  Lunch is also included.
