Creating Individualized Language Plans For English Learners

Facilitator: Lori Menning  I  EL, Bilingual-Bicultural & World Language Consultant

  • Are you familiar with the new Individualized Language Plan (ILP)?
  • Will you be responsible for creating, introducing or implementing ILPs for your ELs?
  • How can the WIDA Standards and Can Do Descriptors be used to align individual student goals?

The ILP is a written plan for an EL which details strategies, accommodations, and supports to be implemented in the classroom and on assessments.  This plan is currently outlined in the DPI EL Policy Handbook Draft and is to be implemented for the 2020-2021 school year. The ILP should be created by the student’s classroom teachers in consultation with EL staff.

OBJECTIVES

  • The goal of this workshop is to familiarize you with the newer Individualized Language Plan described in the DPI EL Policy Handbook and provide you the information and resources to write them.
  • The afternoon will be dedicated to reviewing ACCESS data and creating ILPs that capture the linguistic supports for your ELs.
