Middle and High School students are social!  Using the structure of book clubs allows teachers to engage students in high—quality academic conversations around high—quality and engaging texts. Allowing some element of choice in what a book club reads, who they read with, and the pace at which they read gives students ownership in their learning and an opportunity to transfer the work modeled with an anchor text.

Participants in this workshop will learn the structures, behaviors, and routines to teach students to independently run book clubs along with the skills and strategies students will need to have high—quality and rigorous conversations. Participants will watch a few book clubs to help define what the work of a strong book club looks and sounds like.
