This workshop series is based upon Jan Richardson's research and work, including The Next Step Forward in Reading Intervention - The RISE Framework (Reading Intervention for Students to Excel); The Next Step Forward in Guided Reading; and, most recently, The Next Step Forward in Word Study and PhonicsJoin us to explore and to learn to implement these reading interventions. Across the 3 days, participants will be provided clear, concise and practical instructions for planning and teaching these interventions.

DAY 1: November 19, 2019

  • RISE & RISE UP: A Deeper Dive into The Stations
  • Word Study & Phonics: Assessment and Embedding Word Study in Small Group Reading Instruction

DAY 3: February 5, 2020

  • RISE & RISE UP: A Deeper Dive into Progress Monitoring
  • Word Study & Phonics: Intentional Planning for Mastery


SERIES OBJECTIVES
Participants will:

  • Dive into the resource texts and online companion resources.
  • Explore needed additional resources (which most teachers already have in their supplies).
  • Experience many simulations, using all resources (provided by Jan Richardson and additional classroom materials).
  • Learn the structure and instructional practices.
  • Receive clear, concise and practical instructions for planning lessons.


RISE & RISE UP: The Next Step Forward in Reading Intervention*  Jan Richardson’s research proves that students can gain confidence, proficiency and skills to excel as readers and exit intervention after only 6-8 weeks, using this framework:

  • RISE (Grades 1-8) can take place daily within a 45 or 60 minute block with 4 teachers/paraprofessionals OR 1 teacher in a 40 minute block.
  • RISE UP (Grades 3-8) can take place daily within a 45 minute block with 3 teachers/paraprofessionals OR 1 teacher in a 40 minute block.


The Next Step Forward in Word Study and Phonics (Grades K-8)* A series of simulated lessons will guide participants to utilize the gradual release of responsibility model. This method enables readers and writers to effectively utilize six different phonics and word study approaches.

REGISTRATION FEE OPTIONS:

OPTION 1:  $325 per participant* (Bring your own books/resources)
                   
* Principal's Rate = $120 for all three sessions if attending with a team of at least 4 additional staff members.

--OR--

OPTION 2:  $415 per participant* to include the books
                  
* Principal's Rate = $210 for all three sessions with books, if attending with a team of at least 4 additional staff members.

Cancellation policy: Any registration cancellation must be received at least 5 business days before the first session in order for a full refund to be issued. Registration cancellations received 1-4 business days before the first session, a refund, minus $90 for each participant if resources have been ordered or $50 for each participant without resources, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on any of the series days ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee without refund. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
