Workshop Goals
- Explore the learning trajectories of key mathematics concepts in Grades 5-8th mathematics in order to support and extend the mathematical learning of all students.
- Deepen participants’ understanding of the Standards for Mathematical Practice as a tool to increase the cognitive rigor of mathematical tasks.
- Enhance participants’ knowledge of the use of visual representations in mathematics (e.g., tape diagrams, double number lines, etc) in order to support student reasoning and problem solving strategies.
Jennifer Kosiak is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She teaches a variety of courses including general education mathematics courses and courses designed for future elementary, middle, and high school teachers. She is a past President of the Wisconsin Mathematics Council (2015-2018) and is actively involved is supporting the professional learning needs of mathematics teachers across the state of Wisconsin. She is also the co-author of two books focus in problem-solving in the elementary school classroom.
Participant Cancellation Policy:
You must contact CESA 4 to cancel attendance one week prior to the scheduled event unless otherwise stated in the individual event details. CESA 4 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 4 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. CESA 4 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot.
Dietary Restrictions:
Because of the number of meals served, number of ingredients used, and food product changes from vendors, we cannot guarantee dietary restrictions as indicated in a user's myQuickReg profile will be accommodated. Participants with dietary restrictions such as food allergies should plan to bring their own refreshments.
Weather Conditions:
If a workshop has been cancelled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop. If weather conditions are questionable, please call CESA 4 Voice Mail at (608) 786-4800; Toll Free (800) 514-3075. A message will be posted regarding workshop weather cancellations.
Additional Accommodations:
If you need an accommodation to participate including interpreter services (sign language or other spoken language) please email the workshop contact to set up these services. A two-week notice is appreciated.
