Demolish disengagement, boost comprehension, and turn nonreaders into readers! Join Samantha Bennett in her workshop to learn proven ways to help struggling readers succeed. Samantha will lead an exploration of tested strategies that will derail disengagement and improve comprehension of increasingly complex texts. She will teach us how to leverage formative assessments to create instructional feedback and how to develop meaningful summative assessments and grading practices.

Participants will:

• Find ways to create a web of authentic, compelling reasons for students to read
• Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of instruction on a daily, weekly, quarterly, or annual basis
• Discover strategies for helping students comprehend more sophisticated texts over time
• Learn techniques for checking whether readers are improving over time
• Analyze and revise current unit plans in order to impact student engagement as readers and writers

CESA 6 CANCELLATION POLICY:

Any registration cancellation must be received before Friday, March 6, 2020 in order for a full refund to be issued. Registration cancellations received after Friday, March 6, 2020, a refund will be issued, but minus $50 for each participant in order to cover the cost of catering that was ordered and materials that were made for each participant(s).  Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.

Sam Bennett is an Instructional Coach, Author, and Education Consultant. As an expert in curriculum design and day-to-day instruction, she works closely with districts around the country to help Principals, Coaches and Teachers grow their Professional Capital. Her goal is to help every educator jump out of bed each day with the energy it takes to grow their students into more knowledgeable, skilled, powerful, and empathetic human beings.

She is the author of several Heinemann Digital Classroom Resources with Cris Tovani and Debbie Miller as well as, That Workshop Book: New Systems and Structures for Classrooms that Read, Write and Think.
