This introductory level session is designed to help you think through poetry in grades K - 2. You will explore the phases of poetry workshop and the integration of reading, writing, and student – led discussion along the way. You will be immersed in experiences and will begin to create your poetry anthology.

OBJECTIVES

Participants will:

  • Understand the structure of a poetry workshop.
  • Experience the four phases of poetry workshop.
  • Create and start your own poetry anthology.
  • Consider two rationales: a poetry unit of study and including poetry workshop on a weekly basis.


THIS WORKSHOP IS A GOOD FIT FOR:
Those who organize instruction within a workshop framework and would like to consider structuring one day each week around a poetry workshop for a portion of the academic year.


WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Grades K - 2 teachers, reading specialists, literacy coaches, instructional leaders, and principals.


PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BRING:
Your favorite poetry resources.

DATE: March 27, 2019

TIMES: 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
             Q&A = 2:30 – 3:00 p.m.

REGISTRATION FEE*: $150 per participant

  • Includes access to online materials and resources and lunch.
  • *Principals’ registration fee is just $35 if attending with a team of at least 4 staff members.


Cancellation policy: Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full refund to be issued. Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
