Our CESA 5 English Learner Network Meeting and Professional Development Series will focus on federal and state updates concerning Title III and English Learners and provide various professional development opportunities for educators interested in deepening their knowledge of English learners.

 

The professional development opportunities will focus on the following topics:

  • Identifying and screening language learners

  • How students acquire language

  • Strategies to be more effective in the classroom with English learners

  • Strategies to engage all students including English learners

  • Equity

  • Cultural awareness, cultural responsiveness, and integrating culture ideas into the classroom

  • English Learner resources including WIDA, ¡Colori? n Colorado!, Stanford University, etc.

  • WIDA standards and English language proficiency levels

  • Instructional planning including differentiation, personalized learning, and universal design for learning

  • Sheltered instruction

  • Assessment practices (formative and summative)

  • Topics to be determined (based on participant feedback)

 

Audience: Educational professionals including teachers and administrators who are interested in deepening their knowledge of best practices for teaching English learners

Cost per date:  Free to CESA 5 Title III Consortium Members (funded through Consortium)
           CESA 5 School Improvement Consortium Members: $75
           All Others:  $125

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
