Description:
This two-day workshop is designed for teachers to foster 21st century skills and teach current standards that prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s world! The focus is on teaching students how to think, not what to think. Learn how to integrate problem solving into curriculum, RtI, and ELL programming.  In addition, learn about possible Future Problem Solving competitions.

Workshop objectives:

  • Pursuing the Process: Learn the basics: how to use a problem solving process to find challenges, identify a key problem, generate solution ideas, establish criteria to evaluate them, and create an action plan.
  • Instructional Activities: Learn a variety of strategies and activities for teaching problem solving skills to students and for integrating them into curriculum, including a look at resource materials.
  • Thinking Tools: This workshop will have a special emphasis on applying a variety of creative and critical thinking tools to real-life problem solving.
  • Component Close-up: Learn more about the competitive program components of FPS and about non-competitive options. Look at program materials and discuss in-depth ideas for integrating problem solving into your particular situation.

Workshop Instructors:
Instructors are experienced educators and Future Problem Solving coaches who have worked extensively with students in FPS, have training in creative and critical thinking, have evaluated work at the FPS state and international levels, and have taken competitive teams to the International level.
