The training will cover some of the new drugs threat along with other alarming activities of this new generation and what can be done.

Jason Weber, Community Liaison Officer for the Town of Menasha Police Department and nationally recognized drug prevention speaker will be presenting. Jason initiated a coalition that developed a pharmaceutical abuse prevention toolkit called “Good Drugs Gone Bad.” He presented at seminars and distributed the toolkit to over 3,000 people in health care, law enforcement, and education fields in the Midwest and New England states. This program was one of nine that was highlighted at the 2011 SAMHSA Service to Science Academy.

Deputy Pete Ehlert of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office will focus on why our children are at risk when using social media and the Internet. Deputy Elhert will show how easy it is for a predator to target our kids and the methods they use. Sexting laws will be broken down and you will learn why our children engage in this behavior and don’t think it’s a big deal. Popular apps among youth in our community will also be covered and they will show you how kids get in trouble using these apps. Lastly, he will cover what you can do to help keep our kids safe.

Pete has been a Deputy Sheriff for 15 years with the last thirteen at the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. He has served in many capacities while working for the Sheriff’s Office including being assigned to the corrections, patrol, GPS and Transport Division, and currently serves as the Community Programs Coordinator for the Sheriff’s Office. Pete also is the DARE Officer for Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and teaches in 10 schools throughout the County and reaches approximately 750 students per year.

Participants will learn about the new drug and Internet trends facing our youth and communities, and best practices from other communities/schools in combating these threats.
