Improve teaching practice in all areas of early literacy using four instructional approaches: standards–based; evidence–based; assessment–based; and, student–based instruction. Determine the instructional needs of your classroom and take full advantage of what you know about your students to engage them in learning. Skills and research–based strategies for targeting early literacy will be supported during this workshop with activities and children’s literature.

Participants will:

  • Learn how to include essential early literacy components in instructional practices.
  • Incorporate oral language into the classroom.
  • Practice strategies to foster word knowledge in the classroom.
  • Learn the alphabetic code and phonological awareness.
  • Assess word recognition and fluency.
  • Take away strategies to build up reading comprehension.
  • Develop writing in young learners.

Who should attend?

Pre-K and Kindergarten classroom teachers, literacy coaches / reading specialists, principals, and curriculum directors.
