Is your school district implementing the Lucy Calkins Reading Units of Study in 2017–2018? If yes, join us for this one-day, Reading Units of Study training jumpstart. Participants will receive an introduction to the materials in the kit, guidance in establishing structures and routines and helpful tips and tricks for successful implementation. Additionally, participants will explore the mini-lesson structure, on-demand assessments and Reading Pathways. Choose your grade-level training: grades K–2, grades 3–5 or grades 6–8*.

Workshop objectives
Participants will:

  • Gain a greater understanding of the materials included in the kit.
  • Understand the structures and routines necessary to implement the units of study with fidelity.
  • Consider mini-lessons they will want to teach in order to launch a writing workshop.
  • Understand the components of and the rationale for the on-demand assessments.

Who should attend?
Classroom teachers in grades K-8, reading teachers, reading specialists, literacy coaches and administrators


Participants must bring:
Lucy Calkins Reading Units of Study kit*
*Lucy Calkins Units of Study in Reading for Gr. 6–8 kit is scheduled to be available in August 2017.

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
