This event is presented by CESA 6 collaboration with Mathematics Institute of WI (formerly Brookhill).

This three-day seminar focuses on mathematical content knowledge around algebra and functions, while diving deeply into mathematical representations. Visual representations of mathematics help students deepen their understanding of mathematics. This seminar looks at various ways to represent the mathematical understanding, including visual, symbolic, and physical representations. These various representations are intertwined with the mathematical content to emphasize how formulas can be derived from a situation, and how an analysis of formulas results in the understanding of equations and functions. Connections to the modeling conceptual category and the modeling cycle will be examined.

Workshop objectives

  • Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the CCSSM conceptual categories of Algebra and Functions.
  • Participants will use various mathematical representations of equations and functions and see the connections between them.
  • Participants will investigate real-life applications of algebra and functions.

Who should attend?

Math Educators, Math Coordinators, Interventionists, Administrators and Math Enthusiasts!
