This event is presented by CESA 6 collaborating with Mathematics Institute of WI (formerly Brookhill).

This three-day seminar focuses on mathematical content knowledge around fractions while diving deeply into mathematical representations. Visual representations of mathematics help students deepen their understanding of mathematics. This seminar looks at various ways to represent the mathematical content, including visual, symbolic, verbal, and physical representations. These various representations are intertwined with the mathematical content to deepen understanding and proficiency with fractions aligned to the expectations of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). Emphasis is placed understanding how the standards relate to the progression of mathematics learning across grades, examining visual models, and studying meaningful contexts in which to apply the standards

Workshop objectives:

  • Participants will use various mathematical representations of fractions to see the connection between them.
  • Participants will become familiar with progression of standards for fractions across Grades 3-5.
  • Participants will understand, represent and explain the important ideas in CCSSM for unit fractions, fraction equivalence, comparing fractions, operations with fractions and relationships between decimals and fractions.

Who should attend?
Math Educators, Math Coordinators, Interventionists, Administrators and Math Enthusiasts!
