The Pyramid Model is an evidenced-based framework for multi-leveled systems of support to promote social and emotional competence and reduce challenging behavior in children ages 3 to 8. The training content will focus on practical strategies for implementing trauma sensitive teaching of social skills while providing supports to reduce challenging behavior. This content works. Participants will:

  • Discuss the relationship between children’s social emotional development and challenging behavior
  • Identify strategies for building nurturing relationships with children, families and colleagues
  • Explain the importance of and strategies for supporting engagement of young children in learning activities
  • Describe strategies for giving clear instruction
  • Review how large– and small-group instruction can help support intentional teaching
  • Provide rationale for using descriptive feedback throughout the day with children
  • Identify methods for intentionally teaching emotional literacy
  • Explain the importance of and strategies for promoting the development of friendship in young children
  • Learn a self-regulation strategy for children and methods to intentionally teach this strategy to children
  • Learn problem-solving steps and methods to intentionally teach children to use these steps
  • Understand how to identify the “behavior equation” to create a “behavior support plan” that includes all elements necessary to reduce challenging behaviors
  • Practice using a problem-solving Routines Based Guide to plan interventions

Participant Cancellation Policy: You must contact CESA 4 to cancel attendance one week prior to the scheduled event unless otherwise stated in the individual event details. CESA 4 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 4 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. CESA 4 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot.


Dietary Restrictions: Because of the number of meals served, number of ingredients used, and food product changes from vendors, we cannot guarantee dietary restrictions as indicated in a user's myQuickReg profile will be accommodated. Participants with dietary restrictions such as food allergies should plan to bring their own refreshments.


Weather Conditions: If a workshop has been cancelled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop. If weather conditions are questionable, please call CESA 4 Voice Mail at (608) 786-4800; Toll Free (800) 514-3075. A message will be posted regarding workshop weather cancellations.
