Aligning College and Career Ready IEPs with Grade Level Standards

Results Driven Accountability (RDA) states that IEPs must be aligned with content standards for the student’s current grade level. Special Education Teachers left asking: What is grade level curriculum? How are IEP goals, strongly aligned to the specific standards, and student’s disability related needs? What kind of access, learning experiences, and assessments are most meaningful, and how should they be embedded within the general education curriculum for all leanrers? By examining the big picture, special educators can determine the curriculum’s strengths and weaknesses, and then decide where to focus attention in its design and revision or where to supplement. The big picture, has many layers of curriculum to consider: formal, operational, taught, assessed and learned curriculum. This workshop is designed to examine the many layers of high quality curriculum and student IEP alignment.

Workshop objectives:
Discuss the importance of curriculum accessibility and effectiveness

• Understand the many layers, their importance and how they interact for clear communication and effectiveness
• Examine the importance of quality professional development to address the rationale, development, and use of the curriculum.
• Experience how student work is used to inform the curriculum, illustrate levels of performance, and determine student need.

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
