Creating a learning environment that supports appropriate student participation can be challenging.  This workshop will focus on strategies that secondary mathematics teachers can use to maximize collaboration and engagement.  We will explore ways to choose tasks, strategies to help students adjust to new ways of approaching schoolwork, and types of status problems that can impede the most earnest attempts at collaborative leaning.  We will also discuss ways to create equitable collaborative learning environments that support all students and develop confidence in their mathematical ability.

Learning outcomes include:

  1. Participants will learn how to use group work effectively to create a learning environment in the secondary mathematics classroom.
  2. Participants will learn how students experience learning mathematics in collaborative settings.
  3. Participants will explore tasks, strategies and tools to create successful group work and reach students of all abilities.

This session is offered at no cost to CESA 10 districts participating in Title IIA and STEM (Abbotsford, Altoona, Augusta, Bloomer, Bruce, Cadott, Chippewa Falls, Colby, Cornell, Eau Claire, Eleva-Strum, Gilman, Gilmanton, Granton, Greenwood, Lake Holcombe, Loyal, Neillsville, New Auburn, Osseo-Fairchild, Owen-Withee, Spencer, Stanley-Boyd, and Thorp).

For all other districts, the cost to attend is $350 per participant.

Teacher Standards
