What is WISELearn?

WISELearn is a statewide initiative through the Department of Public Instruction. Part of this portion of the WISELearn project is creating a digital content repository of highly-vetted, standards-aligned digital content to include lesson plans, videos, simulations, games, project- or problem-based activities, etc. Learn more about WISELearn here: http://dpi.wi.gov/wiselearn

WHO Should Attend?

  • All content area educators, all grade levels
  • Curriculum and Instruction Directors
  • Educators interested in vetting already existing digital content and contributing to a statewide repository.
  • This Level 1 training is for New Curators only.  Repeat Curators, contact Dorothy Ginnett about future Level II Curator opportunities.  ginnettd@cesa5.org

Workshop Description:

Each WISELearn Digital Content Curation workshop will bring in participants tto curate digital content and process it through standards-aligned rubrics, with emphasis on content standards, ACHIEVE OER and EQUIP.   Digital content uploaded by participants will then be held for a final content review and uploaded into the WISELearn Educator Portal Digital Content Repository, making it available to all Wisconsin educators, free of charge.

  • Prior to the face-to-face workday, participants are expected to complete frontloaded online training in the Achieve Equip OER (Open Education Resources) Standards, metadata and meta tagging, copyright/attribution rights (Creative Commons) of digital content and vetting protocols.

  • During the workshop, participants will be trained and work with peer colleagues to complete the review of 3 - 4 digital content resources to the WISELearn Repository.  This can potentially be completed during the workshop training day.

  • Following the curation work day, participants will be expected to complete their upload of 3 - 4 digital content resources to the WISELearn Repository.

Stipend opportunity:  $150 stipend available to first time level 1 curators

Mileage:   $25 travel reimbursement (for personal vehicles only, not school vehicles)

Virtebo Credit Opportunity:  Participants seeking 1 graduate credit, see the Syllabus for information.  Please contact Kaye Henrickson if you have questions about registration and fees,  henrickson@cesa4.org .  You will complete the pre-workshop online training, and attend the workshop and  upload 3 - 4 vetted digital resources to WISELearn.  In addition, you will take a piece of digital content curated and develop, implement and evaluate a lesson plan as well as reflective paper of implementation and lessons learned of the curation process and the impact of quality, vetted content on student learning.
