Description

This four-session network connects you with nationally renowned experts in the field of coaching. In each session, one expert will provide training in the use of one powerful coaching tool. The CESA 6 Literacy Center team will follow up to support you in the planning and use of the tool with your teachers.

Session 1: October 31, 2016 -- Susan MacDonald
Strength-Based Coaching to Support Professional Growth
Experience a rich interactive overview of coaching frameworks and reflective practices that facilitate increased engagement with teachers. Techniques and strategies will be shared that support coaches in successfully facilitating the professional growth of teachers. Participants will receive a variety of coaching activities, scripts, and lists of empowering questions designed to help coaches enhance their skills.

Session 2: December 15, 2016 -- Sandi Slough
Coaching Beliefs and Their Impact on Work
Instructional Coaches are compassionate, passionate educators! Sometimes that passion sets us up for great success and sometimes it gets in our way. How can you identify the difference? In this session we will examine our beliefs about our work, our purpose, our methods and our expected outcomes. We will learn the key to becoming a coach that easily inspires transformation. Be ready for self-reflection, tips and techniques you can apply immediately to your everyday work.

Session 3: February 21, 2017 -- Jennifer Allen*
Layered Coaching – Study Group Layer
Jennifer will share the framework for "layered coaching" as a model for coaches to develop their roles within schools. She will explore the role of the coach through the layers of being a resource, voluntary study groups, required staff professional development, coaching teachers in the classroom, supporting “students on the bubble”, and supporting curriculum and assessment. Explore the power of study groups within the context of layered coaching. Experience a study group format. Specific strategies will be shared on how to meet the individual professional needs of teachers, what to expect from and the coach’s role in a study group. Learn how to find a focus and resources, and establishing a predictable routine.

*All participants registered (prior to Feb. 1, 2017) will receive a copy of Jennifer's book, Becoming A Literacy Leader: Supporting Learning and Change

Session 4: May 23, 2017 -- Susan MacDonald
Appreciative Inquiry - Focusing on What's Right!
Positive strength-based energy is the key to transforming the quality of educational programs. The stress of new initiatives can drain the energy of educators, creating a school community where low levels of engagement become the norm. Focused, intentional and appreciative inquiry will support the development of a vibrant learning community where children, teachers, and adults can thrive!
