DESCRIPTION

This workshop series is designed to support teachers who are using the Lucy Calkins Writing Units of Study as they work to implement the required assessment and instructional routines that are part of the writing workshop structure. Each workshop session is distinct from the others, but sequenced to strategically support teachers through implementation in manageable bits. Within each workshop event, application tasks are specific to each grade level teacher’s resources and student work samples. Literacy Coach application tasks will be specific to the teachers with whom they work.

Day 1: Nov. 15, 2016

  • Zooming in on mini-lesson formats
  • Examining the first unit of study
  • Four types of mini-lessons
  • Using student writing to personalize a session
  • Three student conferring formats
  • Using student writing, unit of study pathway, and rubric to set a focus for conference

Day 2: Jan. 11, 2017

  • Examining the underlying structure of the Writing Workshop
  • Small Group Writing Sessions
    • Using the Progressions - Goal Setting Groups
    • Strategy Groups
    • Motivation groups
  • Fleshing out an If…Then… Unit of Study

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
