This day long workshop will have in depth presentation and discussions regarding State Law—Act 31, Wisconsin American Indian Studies (1989/1991). The focus of the workshop will be to help educators have an understanding and implementation of Act 31, which is a state law that requires all public school districts and pre-service teacher programs to provide instruction in the history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of the eleven federally-recognized American Indian nations in the state. The workshop is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and information they need to integrate the requirements of Act 31 into lesson plans, material selections, pedagogical practices, and district curriculum. Information about Wisconsin American Indian nation’s histories, treaty rights, sovereignty, and cultures will be presented throughout the workshop.
