Wisconsin Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative (WSPEI)

District Family Engagement Liaison Trainings

 

The Wisconsin Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative (WSPEI) offers a core group of trainings for all district identified Family Engagement Liaisons.  Trainings are offered at the following times.

 

Dates/TimeMonday and Tuesday, January 21, 22, 2013   4:00 pm – 8:30 pm (both days)

                         Tuesday, March, 26, 2013    9:00 am – 4:30 pm

 

Location: CESA #4, 923 East Garland Street, West Salem, WI  54669

 

Audience: In addition to WSPEI District Liaisons, parents, family members and educators are encouraged to attend to learn about basic special education topics.

Cost: These training days are grant-funded and are FREE to all registered participants

January 21-22, 2013 trainings will cover the following topics:

·         WSPEI Overview – Review of WSPEI grant history, grant goals, and focus of work.

·         WSPEI Data System – Review data system with new District Family Engagement Liaisons so that they become familiar with the system and the different types of information collected.

·         Confidentiality – Review of confidentiality laws, disclosure, policies, and requirements.

·         Unauthorized Practice of Law – Raise awareness regarding the significance of the unauthorized  

Practice (UPL) among non-attorney parent/family support persons.

·         Effective Communication and Parent-Professional Partnerships – Identify and understand different communication concepts and the process for building relationships with school staff. 

·         Navigating the Special Education Maze – Understand basic information about special education and learn about resources and tools.

 

March 26 training will cover the following topics:

·         IEP Process & Product – Review the referral process, timelines, evaluation, and determination of disability and services.  Learn about the components of and IEP, the who, what, why, and how of IEPs.  Parent involvement and parent rights are covered as well.

·         Transition Planning for Students and Families – Review effective transition requirements and best practices in transition planning, learn about self-determination, and become aware of transition resources and websites.  The importance of family engagement in post-secondary planning will be stressed.

 NOTE:  Everyone should attend the full trainings to get the most out of this learning opportunity.  IEPs are covered in the first half of the training; Transition the second half of the workshop.  District-identified Family Engagement Liaisons must attend the entire workshop

Participant Cancellation Policy: You must contact CESA 4 to cancel attendance one week prior to the scheduled event unless otherwise stated in the individual event details. CESA 4 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 4 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. CESA 4 reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by e-mail or phone if a workshop is cancelled. If a participant is a 'no show' the school will be billed for the registration fee, or loss of the 'free' attendance slot.


Dietary Restrictions: Because of the number of meals served, number of ingredients used, and food product changes from vendors, we cannot guarantee dietary restrictions as indicated in a user's myQuickReg profile will be accommodated. Participants with dietary restrictions such as food allergies should plan to bring their own refreshments.


Weather Conditions: If a workshop has been cancelled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop. If weather conditions are questionable, please call CESA 4 Voice Mail at (608) 786-4800; Toll Free (800) 514-3075. A message will be posted regarding workshop weather cancellations.


Additional Accommodations: If you need an accommodation to participate including interpreter services (sign language or other spoken language) please email the workshop contact to set up these services. A two-week notice is appreciated.
