2012 Cray Academy

A dynamic cloud is enhancing education today! Retooling ourselves is the only way we will be able to reach today's learners, which more and more are becoming connoisseurs from a buffet of technology treats. This revolutionary development is called "Cloud Computing." Cloud-based computing or applications do not run on a single computer; instead, they are spread over a distributed environment.

Educators need to understand and take advantage of this new model in computing as it directly addresses the 21st Century skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Discover the concept or ability for "Flipping" your classroom through new collaborative tools, distribution techniques, and innovative instructional techniques. Join John Kuglin as he continues to navigate you through numerous cloud-based applications from Adobe, Google, SlideRocket, Mindmeister, and others that use the "cloud" as a platform. Learn the pros and cons for district implementation. Learn to work more efficiently and effectively as a professional.

Presenter:  John R. Kuglin

John Kuglin is known as a technology pioneer and a visionary leader in K-16 education. He has been featured on CNN for his innovative uses of technology in the classroom, has testified before the US Senate on classroom technologies, and served as a consultant and on-air host for a 10-part technology series on the Learning Channel. John was identified as one of the Top 25 Education Technology Advocates in the United States by District Administrator magazine, as well as awarded the Power Teacher designation, one of only ten such designations in the country, by USA Today. He is also a nationally acclaimed keynote speaker addressing the nation’s largest technology conferences.

To regain first-hand, practical knowledge of the current state of public education, John returned to a K-12 district in 2006 to serve as the Chief Information Officer for the Eagle County School District in Vail, Colorado. There, he successfully oversaw the complete rebuild of the district’s technology systems funded through the passage of a $128 million dollar bond which he helped to secure. For three years, he researched and directed the technology components for the bond construction projects, as well as managed all facets of technology learning in the district’s 18 schools. His experience is current, practical, and relevant to the actual status of technology, students, and learning in America’s schools today.
