Supporting Families through the Special Education Process Training for Interpreters   

Training Description This 4 hour training will provide information on responsibilities and requirements related to translation and interpretation during the special education process.The training will also lead participants through case studies that feature common ethical considerations in interpretation during IEP team meetings.Participants will leave with resources to support their work as interpreters for families participating in the special education process.The training is a collaborative effort developed by the Disproportionality Technical Assistance Network, Wisconsin FACETS, the Wisconsin Statewide Parent, Educator Initiative, Alianza Latina Aplicando Soluciones, and staff from the Green Bay Area Public School District. Participants will receive a certificate of completion that may be used to meet, in part, federal special education requirements related to “qualified” translators and interpreters. Learning Objectives As a result of this training, participants can expect:Increased knowledge of legal responsibilities and requirements related to translation and interpretation of special education, including specialized terms or concepts in special education and confidentialityIncreased skills to handle common ethical considerations Increased knowledge of tools and resources for interpreters Who Should Attend This training is intended for all interpreters in small or mid?size districts who need guidance and support through the special education process. While special education resources for interpreters are more widely available in Spanish than other languages, the content of the workshop will be relevant for all interpreters.

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
