An Echoes and Reflections professional development program is an opportunity for middle and high school educators to experience the teaching strategies, organization, and multi- and interdisciplinary content through a variety of facilitator-led experiential activities and discussions. The focus of the program is on the practical application of the material in the classroom, using a sound pedagogy for teaching about the Holocaust.
During this program, participants will:
• Experience multiple lessons/parts of lessons, with particular emphasis on examining primary source materials.
• Watch and discuss clips of visual history testimony, and consider how to effectively utilize this medium in the classroom.
• Explore the features on the Echoes and Reflections website, including specific information related to Common Core State Standards.
Each participant will receive a free copy of the Echoes and Reflections Teacher’s Resource Guide.
Middle and high school teachers of history/social studies, English/language arts, fine arts, religion, ethics, and Holocaust and genocide electives are all excellent candidates to attend this professional development program, as are teachers in other subject areas and educators working with special populations. Developing a cross-curricular approach to teaching about the Holocaust will enrich students’ understanding of the events that they are studying about and will encourage them to connect what they are learning to contemporary events.
$15.00 per participant from CESA 8 CIA member school districts. $30.00 for all others
