***This workshop with Cheryl Tobey features three face-to-faces sessions and four online sessions (online dates TBD)***

The course provides professional development to mathematics specialists, coaches and teacher leaders to learn about and support the implementation of formative assessment practices in the mathematics classroom.  The course consists of seven sessions focusing on formative assessment practices that promote student ownership of learning through sharing learning goals and monitoring progress toward those goals through peer and self-assessment.

What will leaders gain from participating?

  • Knowledge of key research findings about formative assessment practices in mathematics that support student self-regulation
  • Numerous, ready-to-use tools and resources for learning about and supporting the implementation of assessment practices in the mathematics classroom
  • Ongoing facilitation support while leading the course with teachers
  • Collegial exchanges with other mathematics leaders to share ideas and resources within a collaborative learning community
  • Continued future access to the course material

What is the structure of the course?

The leader course is a hybrid professional development course that includes seven sessions.

  • Three face-to-face sessions:  Each session is 1 day (6.5 contact hourse per session) in length.  The face-to-face sessions are sessions 1 and 4 and 6, held on February 4, 2016, April 19, 2016, and September 20, 2016, all at CESA 5 in Portage, WI.
  • Four online sessions:  Each online session runs for one month and requires an estimated average of 4-5 hours for completion.  The online sessions are session 2, 3, 5 and 7.  No previous experience with online courses is necessary!
