CESA 5, in conjunction with the WI DPI and discretionary grant staff, have been working collaboratively for you to create the event We Are Literacy. The purpose of this event is to have any and all educators and administrators attend and gain insight into effective practices in all literacy areas. Speakers ranging from Early Childhood to Adult Learners will be providing guidance and strategies on reading, writing, speaking, listening, and leadership.

The first day will be Steven Layne guiding the group through engaging all learners in the classroom and transcending that passion into their daily lives. Dr. Steven L. Layne serves as Professor of Literacy Education at Judson University in Elgin, IL, where he teaches courses in children's literature and directs the university's Master of Education in Literacy program. He is a fifteen-year veteran of public education -- serving as a classroom teacher and reading specialist in a wide span of grade levels. His book, Igniting a Passion for Reading is inspiring and informing. The foreword, by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser, "The Sisters,” speaks to his professional insight and applicable strategies for classroom use.

The second day will have DPI’s Barb Novak and Laura Adams morning keynote, with breakout sessions ranging from classroom teachers, superintendents, and other educational professionals. The goal of this event is diversity- so all can benefit from attending. Literacy is at the forefront of all educational areas, and thus needs different approaches, strategies, and individual capacity to help the learners that are and will be in our schools.

One Day Option Available for $125.00 - please email johnsonkr@cesa5.org if you would like the one day option and she will register you!

This event will be held at the Wilderness in the beautiful Wisconsin Dells area.
