Description: This session will provide up-to-date information about current issues in special education including local and national examples of effective practices as well as future directions.  Topics to be discussed include IDEA and ESEA reauthorization progress and predictions, role evolution for school psychologists and special education staff, how to respond to the shortage of school psychologists, current thinking regarding Multi-Level Systems of Support, current thinking regarding systems change and effective instruction, using data for setting goals and evaluating “sufficient progress,” and implementing “strategic” assessment that is efficient and effective.  This is a valuable opportunity to engage in broader, systems level conversations to impact outcomes for all students.  

Presenters:  John Humphries is the Director of Pupil Services in the Dodgeville School District and the current president of WSPA.  Dr. Ed O’Connor is the Executive Director of the Midwest Instructional Leadership Council and a Systems Support Consultant and Center Leader with CESA 2.
