Join Petey MacCarty and Kurt Kinsey of Mountain States Mathematics in examining and exploring topics in number learning, drawing on re-search published in Developing Number Knowledge, Wright et. al. (The fourth book in the Math Recovery series, a.k.a. The Red Book.) The three sessions of this two-day workshop include:

  • Part I: Progressive Mathematization — Advancing student number knowledge
  • Part II: Charting a Pathway for Multiplication and Division Fact Fluency
  • Part III: What Parts Make the Whole of Fraction Understanding?

Participants will:

  • Examine and develop an understanding of the dimensions of stu-dents’ progressive mathematization
  • Examine a detailed learning trajectory for multiplication & division
  • Examine how to strategically use tools to increase students’ un-derstanding and fluency with multiplication and division
  • Examine a detailed learning trajectory for conceptual develop-ment of fractions
  • Examine instructional tasks for designing instruction to advance student understanding of fractions

Workshop Objectives:
Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how students progress in their understanding of number concepts related to multiplication, division, and fractions.
