Intellectual Need in the Math Classroom

We threaten and we persuade. We try to add real-world context to problems. In spite of our efforts, students often disengage from mathematics still. Please join Dan Meyer as he describes research-based methods for instilling in students a need for new learning. Participants will learn how to make the Common Core State Standards’ for modeling practice accessible to students, resulting in engagement and higher achievement!

As seen on CNN, Good Morning America, Everyday With Rachel Ray, and 1,000,000 times on TED.com, Dan Meyer taught high school math and studies math education at Stanford University. He speaks internationally and works with textbook publishers, helping them move from education's print past to our digital future. He was named one of Tech & Learning's 30 Leaders of the Future and an Apple Distinguished Educator. He lives in Mountain View, CA. For a sneak peak of Dan Meyer’s work, please check out his blog at blog.mrmeyer.com and some of TED talks videos.
